Esta é uma borboleta comum na mata atlântica, grande, alcançando até 145 mm de envergadura.
Seu vôo é rápido, baixo, podendo ser vista nas horas mais quentes do dia.
Ocorre em matas secundárias e também em regiões habitadas, aonde vai em busca de frutos maduros.

Quando em repouso, mimetiza o tronco da árvore. O lado ventral de suas asas é marrom com ocelos, três na asa anterior e quatro na posterior.
A ilustração mostra um exemplar macho, azul com amplas bordas pretas.

Common in Brazil's Atlantic rain forest.
Morpho Achilles achillaena is a large species, with a wingspan of up to 5.7 in (145 mm).

It flies swiftly and at low levels and can be sighted at the hottest time of the day.
It is found in secondary forests, as well as inhabitated regions, attracted by ripe fruit.
It mimics the tree trunk where it alights. The ventral side of its wings is brown with three ocelli on the back wing and 4 in the front.
